O C A S
THE OLD CARTHUSIAN ART SOCIETY
Timothy Hobart (L68)
With the exception of an art A level (gaining an A grade from a reputable academic establishment), I received no formal training in drawing, painting, sculpting or printmaking. Despite this, and alongside the day job, I attended evening classes in all of the above, except painting, which happens to occupy most of my activity currently.
I was an art historian and museum curator which inculcated in me a certain familiarity with various periods and styles of art from the ancient world to the 21st century. This has inevitably influenced my own outlook and style. My favourite activities have been painting landscapes on the spot in oil, life drawing and painting and sculpting in various media where I favour rapid poses in attempts to convey the spirit of the model more than factual recordings.
In an effort to reduce the subject to its essentials, I am gradually moving towards abstraction. But I haven't got there yet…
